To celebrate, we are bringing together youth from 16 of the countries we’ve visited for the inaugural Giants of Africa Festival in Kigali, Rwanda.
The week-long celebration will use basketball as a tool to educate and empower African youth to dream big.
The Opening Ceremony celebration will kick off the week with a parade of athletes representing the 16 African countries participating in the youth basketball festival, as well as an electrifying concert from Tanzanian Bongo Flava recording artist and award-winning superstar Diamond Platnumz.
Hosted by award-winning sportscaster Carol Tshabalala, the celebration will also feature captivating sounds from Massamba Intore, musician, songwriter and founder of Gakondo music group accompanied by a performance choreographed by Sherrie Silver, an MTV Award-winning choreographer and United Nation's IFAD Advocate for Rural Youth.
The week-long basketball camp and tournament will culminate with a Championship Game & All-Star Competition. Look forward to an evening filled with entertainment, half time performances, special guests and surprises.
The Giants of Africa Festival will end with a Closing Concert featuring an incredible lineup of internationally acclaimed artists and performers. Afrobeats icon Davido, fresh off the success of his fourth studio album, will grace the stage with his infectious energy and magnetic stage presence. Joining him is Tiwa Savage, the Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress known as the Queen of Afrobeats, who will captivate the audience with her unparalleled talent.
Adding to the all-star lineup is Rwanda’s own Bruce Melodie, a gifted singer-songwriter known for his soulful melodies, and Tyla, a rising star selected as one of Spotify’s emerging artists as part of their RADAR program.
Using Giants of Africa’s proven curriculum, all 250+ youth campers will develop their basketball abilities, while learning key life skills lessons.
GOA and NBA coaches and personnel will lead the camps, alongside local coaches from the participating countries.
A three-day tournament where campers compete for their country will determine the Giants of Africa Festival 2023 champions.
Every day during camp, the 250+ youth campers will hear from key industry leaders in the world of sports, entertainment, politics and business as they share their compelling stories and insights on topics including leadership, female empowerment, turning ideas into action, professional development, and investing in yourself and your community.
In recognition of the United Nations sanctioned International Youth Day on August 12th, Giants of Africa will bring together 2,000 local Rwandan youth for an afternoon of engagement, education and empowerment.
